Lansing
is located along the Missouri River in northeast Kansas. It is the second most populous city in Leavenworth County with a population of approximately 10,700 residents. Leavenworth is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2007, Lansing was ranked 88 in Money Magazines list of the top 100 best places to live in the United States. Attractions include the Lansing Historical Museum, NASCAR racing at the newly constructed Kansas Speedway, and all of the exciting attractions of nearby Kansas City. The town of Lansing hosts several special events during the year. The Lansing Daze is held in May and features a contest for the best barbecue. Its also a fun day of family activities, entertainment, crafts and food, a dance and a fireworks display. Another big community event is Lansings Fourth of July Celebration, which offers a fantastic fireworks display after sunset. Autumn in the Grove is held the second Saturday in October in Kelly Grove Park. During this event, local artists display their work and give demonstrations, while local organizations share information about their group. Lansing is a quiet, peaceful Midwestern community that is a great place to visit or use as a home base while visiting the whole Kansas City/Leavenworth region.

The Northeast Corner of Kansas has a climate that is classified as humid continental, with hot, somewhat humid summers and cold, fairly dry winters. Typically the first fall freeze occurs between the last week of September and the end of October, and the last spring freeze occurs between the first week of April and early May. Northeast Kansas receives approximately 36 inches of precipitation during an average year with the most received in May and June. Thunderstorms can be severe, producing lightening, large hail and sometimes tornadoes. Snowfall is generally light, due to the dry, sunny weather patterns that dominate Kansas winters. Snow depth of at least an inch occurs an average of 26 days per year.
