Marion is small town of approximately 2,000 located in central Kansas. Its a historical town with three beautiful stone buildings listed on the National Historic Register and one on the State Historic Register. Marion is also home to a Historical Museum with artifacts of the early days of the area and Indian artifacts from archaeological digs around the city. The Marion Cemetery is another historic spot with graves of early pioneers in a very tranquil setting. Historic home tours are also available in the town. For outdoor recreation, the town of Marion has two parks. Central Park has a nature trail that follows Luta Creek and a recently restored historic spring. Visitors also enjoy antique fountains, volleyball and basketball courts and a playground for children. East Park in Marion has a swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, a skate park, playground equipment and a picnic shelter. Just a short drive away is the Marion Reservoir, which is a 6,200-acre lake with fishing, boating, swimming, wind surfing, camping and picnicking. Marion County Park and Lake is also nearby and was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. It also offers swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, wind surfing and picnic facilities.

Marion Weather & Climate

Central Kansas has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Temperatures range from an average low of 15 degrees F. in January to an average high of 93 degrees F. in July. The first fall freeze occurs between the last week of September and the end of October, and the last spring freeze occurs between the first week of April and early May. The area receives 35 inches of precipitation per year, with most in May and June. Snow depth of at least one inch occurs an average of 20 days per year. The area is prone to thunderstorms, especially in the springtime. Many of these storms become Supercell thunderstorms, which can spawn tornadoes, often of F3 strength or higher.
