Cottonwood-Falls
is a small town located in Chase County in east-central Kansas. The estimated population is 955 residents. It is considered to be part of the Emporia Micropolitan Statistical Area. Cottonwood Falls is the county seat and largest city in Chase County. The Chase County Courthouse forms the center of the town, at the end of Broadway, the towns main street. A brick street so wide you can turn a horse-drawn carriage around on it, Broadway boasts dozens of places to go, including shops, galleries, restaurants, and a hotel. Cottonwood Falls motto is "Where the West Begins." Attractions in town include the historic Chase County Courthouse, built in 1873. It is a masterpiece of French Renaissance architecture and the perfect starting point for a tour down historic Broadway Street. Cottonwood Falls is also near Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, also known as Z-Bar/Spring Hill Ranch. Located just five miles north of Cottonwood Falls on K-177, visitors can tour the ranch headquarters area and take a ranger-guided bus tour of the prairie or hike the 1 ¾ mile Southwind Nature Trail. Other points of interest include the Chase County Historical Museum, which contains a comprehensive collection of artifacts, photos and old newspapers.

East-central Kansas has a humid sub-tropical climate. Over the course of a year, temperatures range from an average low of 15 degrees F. in January to an average high of nearly 93 degrees F. in July. The temperature falls below the freezing point an average of 188 days per year. Typically the first fall freeze occurs between the last week of September and the end of October, and the last spring freeze occurs between the first week of April and early May. The area receives 35 inches of precipitation per year, with the most in May and June. Snow depth of at least one inch occurs an average of 20 days per year. Severe weather is possible, in the form of thunderstorms and tornadoes. Thunderstorms may produce large hail and lightening.
