Milford
is a small town located in Geary County in north-central Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the population was 502 residents. Milford Lake creates the western and southern boundaries of the small town. This easy access to the largest lake in the state makes Milford a desirable vacation destination. The 16,000-acre Milford Reservoir and Milford State Park is one of the most popular recreational lakes in Kansas. Facilities in the park include a full-service marina, boat ramps, campgrounds, shower buildings, swimming beaches, picnic shelters and multi-purpose trails. There is also a large yacht club located in Milford State Park. The state park is a favorite among anglers. Walleye concentrate along the face of the dam in early April to spawn, then move to the flats at Farnum Creek and mud points near School Creek. Nearly all of the brushy and rocky coves contain crappie and largemouth bass, but coves in the Rolling Hills and Curtis Creek areas are traditional hot spots for crappie. White bass and catfish are plentiful in a variety of locations, and smallmouth bass frequent the face of the dam, as well as rocky points in the lower half of the lake. Milford State Park contains seven campgrounds in all with 141 electric and water hook-ups. Over 100 primitive campsites are also available throughout the park. Other nearby attractions include the Milford Nature Center and Milford Fish Hatchery.

Northern Kansas has a humid, continental climate. Winter blizzards, violent windstorms, and heavy rains are common throughout the state, and the continental climate (on occasion) produces rapid temperature extremes. Generally the summers are quite warm, the winters are mild, and the humidity is on the moderate side. January is the coldest month, with average high temperatures near 31 degrees. July is the warmest month, with average high temperatures near 81 degrees. Much hotter summers and harsh, cold winters are not uncommon. Annual precipitation amounts range from 30 - 40 inches in the east, while drier conditions are common in the west.
