is a small town in southeastern Kansas Elk County, located along the Elk River. As of the 2000 census, the population was 112 residents. It is about 35 miles northeast of Independence, Kansas on U.S. Route 160. Elk Falls is known as "the worlds largest living ghost town" and draws thousands of visitors each year for its eccentric attractions. It sits in a beautiful area on a wooded bend in the road not far from the Oklahoma border. Although Elk Falls motto is the worlds largest living ghost town, it also has a saying "We Aint Dead Yet!" It definitely not the typical tourist town and is off the beaten path, which is what draws many to this unique little community. Elk Falls is the type of place to slow down, relax and enjoy a bit of history. Numerous artists and craftspeople call the town home and an attraction known as the Rock Garden, which was built in the 1930s, is currently being restored and will be the home of Elk Falls Pottery, which has been an establishment in the town for three decades. The falls of Elk Falls are located at the east end of Montgomery Street, about three blocks east of the main street in town. The community of Elk Falls is also known for its annual Outhouse Tour, which brings hundreds of tourists through the tiny town each year.
