Beloit
is a town of approximately 4,000 residents, located in Mitchell County in north-central Kansas. It serves as the county seat for Mitchell County. Beloit is situated in the Soloman River Valley, surrounded by the Smoky Hills. Chautauqua Park, one of Kansas most beautiful parks, is located in a bend in the Solomon River and offers visitors a number of recreational opportunities as well as a chance to enjoy the natural scenic beauty of the area. Originally homesteaded in 1866 and incorporated in 1872, Beloit began on the banks of the Solomon River, where the Beloit Mill was built. There, a spring gushed forth and so it became a stopping place for Indians, soldiers, buffalo hunters and settlers on their way westward. Nearby Waconda Springs was sacred to the Indians who once lived in the area. Historical sights in Beloit include the Little Red Schoolhouse, the Mitchell County Historical Society, St. Johns Catholic Church and the Mitchell County Courthouse. The city of Beloit is located on U.S. Highway #24, State Highways #14 and #9, making it easy to travel to surrounding areas. The town also offers a variety of shopping, restaurants and lodging choices for visitors.

North-central Kansas has a humid, continental climate. Winter blizzards, violent windstorms, and heavy rains are common throughout the state, and the continental climate (on occasion) produces rapid temperature extremes. Generally the summers are quite warm, the winters are mild, and the humidity is on the moderate side. January is the coldest month, with average high temperatures near 31 degrees. July is the warmest month, with average high temperatures near 81 degrees. Much hotter summers and harsh, cold winters are not uncommon. Annual precipitation amounts range from 30 - 40 inches in the east, while drier conditions are common in the west.
